The Gilgit Polo Trophy was donated to The Calgary Polo Club by the late Husain Umar in 1985 to encourage low-goal polo tournaments. This year marks the 30th Anniversary of Gilgit Polo being played at the Calgary Polo Club. Giligit is the name of a city in northern Pakistan. Located within the town of Gilgit, is the highest polo ground in the world, named Shandur Top. The Shandur Polo Tournament has been played almost every year in Gilgit since 1936 during the first week of July. The version of polo played in the Shandur Polo ground is considered to be the purist of all, otherwise known as freestyle polo.
The Gilgit Trophy Tournament was held on July 21 & 25th. Congratulations to the winning team ‘Raise The Barn’! On hand were 3 generations of the Umar Family to present the trophy to the winning – Luis Saracco, Ross Prokopy, Candice Crosby, Jan Fourie & Megan Kozminski.
