The Calgary Polo Club’s year-end celebration gala and awards night, The President’s Ball was held on Friday, August 28th. 120 guests enjoyed a Bond-styled cocktail reception sponsored by Belvedere Vodka, followed by a sumptuous feast prepared by Great Events Catering and dancing to the Matt Blais Band and DJ Jack MacKinnon.
The evening’s highlights included the presentation of awards and a special bronze to commemorate Anne Evamy’s tenure as Club President, as she is stepping down at the end of this season.
Award recipients are as follows:
Rookie of the Year: Cole MacKinnon
Most Improved Player: Tiffany Burns
Most Valuable Player – 6 Goal: Maximilliano Menini
Most Valuable Player – Club League: Ross Prokopy
Sportsmanship Award: Pat Powell
Groom of the Year: George Hart
Horsemanship Award: Luis Saracco
This was also the inaugural year for the President’s Trophy. To commemorate Anne’s efforts and dedication to the Calgary Polo Club as President and a playing member, the Evamy family donated a trophy that will stay in the Ranch House to be awarded annually to the person(s) whose outstanding contributions and commitment positively impact the development and betterment of the Calgary Polo Club and its members. This year’s recipients were Sue Bird and Tim Mills.
Two additional awards were held off and given out the following Sunday because as of the night of the gala, the competition was too close to call and the results hinged on the tournament results to be played that weekend.
Sponsor with Most Wins: Tie between Identity Marketing and Remax
Sponsor with the Highest Score: Land Rover Calgary for top goal scorer, Mitch Horne
Congratulations to all for an outstanding season!
